With Galactic, Kayla Williams pays homage to Nintendo’s highly acclaimed video game franchise Super Mario Galaxy. The artist is fascinated by the expansive fantasy worlds and innovative mechanics that were also elements Nintendo used to promote their Wii console. She notices that ordinary items introduced in the game environment have an unusual appeal for players, and that these kinds of details are becoming a selling feature for open-world games. The swing and tea set depicted in Galactic playfully recall motifs like those that enrich, add charm, and breathe life into Super Mario Galaxy 2’s environments.
Kayla Williams' creative work is mainly two-dimensional digital art and cartoon animation. She is inspired by classic cartoons, and her style displays hints of realism with balanced proportions. When illustrating fictional objects or exaggerated characters, her rational and meticulous tendencies concoct a unique blend of whimsical fantasy with grounded characteristics. Kayla Williams is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. She received the Roy C. Moore Award in 2018.
